[BETA] Studiio C1 to C2

We're migrating all customers to our new C2 carrier soon, this is information about our new carrier migration, what new features are coming and when it will be available.

Overview

Studiio's phone system has two generations of carrier infrastructure:

  • C1 (Studiio C1)
Our original phone carrier, used by most stations today

  • C2 (Studiio C2)
Our next-generation carrier, built on a more powerful platform with a completely redesigned phone experience inside the Studiio dashboard and studio panels

We are currently running a BETA program that migrates select C1 customers to C2 early. Over the coming months, all Studiio customers will be automatically migrated from C1 to C2, the BETA program simply lets you get there sooner and help us refine the experience before the wider rollout.

What's New?

The move to C2 isn't just a carrier swap, it comes with a significant upgrade to the phone call experience inside Studiio:

  • Better Call Recording
Recording is more reliable, starts faster, and recordings are processed and available in your call history sooner after a call ends.

  • Multi-Party Calls
You can now add additional participants to a live call, great for on-air interviews, producers joining a screened call, or patching in a second guest.

  • Faster Call Routing
Calls connect to your on-air team more quickly, with reduced latency between a listener dialling in and the call reaching your screener or studio.

  • Upgraded Call Screener UI
The call screener and pool view have been redesigned from the ground up, with real-time caller information, better listener tracking, and a cleaner experience for your team.

  • Phone User Tracking
C2 tracks users across multiple endpoints and phone calls. See where your team are handling calls, who is connected to endpoints and who's handling a call.

  • Custom Call Routing
Schedule routing rules based on specific time windows, recurring weekly schedules, or your show timeslots. During a show, route calls straight to the live screener, outside of show hours, automatically send callers to voicemail or play a custom message. No manual switching required.

What stays the same?

  • Your phone numbers stay the same, they are ported from C1 to C2

  • SMS and MMS messaging is largely unaffected and continues as normal after migration

  • Voice calls continue to work, the listener experience of dialling in is unchanged

  • Your existing listener data and recordings are preserved

What Changes?

  • You cannot use C1 and C2 at the same time. Once migrated, your station moves fully to C2

  • Migration is one-way. Once on C2, you cannot return to C1

  • The phone call interface inside Studiio will look and work differently (for the better)

The Migration Process

When you are invited to join the C2 BETA (or when we migrate your station automatically as part of the wider rollout), here is what to expect:

  1. We initiate a port of your phone number(s) from C1 to C2. This is handled entirely by our team, you do not need to do anything

  2. Number porting typically takes 1 to 4 weeks. This timeline is set by the carriers involved and can vary

  3. A brief period of downtime once porting is complete. When your number is transferred over, you should expect a few minutes, to hours of downtime affecting both voice calls and SMS. We will notify you in advance of this window so you can plan around it (e.g. avoid scheduling it during a major show or live broadcast)

  4. You're live on C2. Once the port is complete and the brief downtime window has passed, everything resumes on C2. Your team will see the new phone interface in the Studiio dashboard and studio panels immediately

Preparing For Migration

There is very little you need to do to prepare, but we recommend:

  • Letting your on-air and production team know that the call screener interface will look different after the switch

  • Reviewing the new custom routing options once you're on C2, these can save your team a lot of manual effort

  • Planning the migration timing around your schedule, let your account contact know if there are periods (e.g. major broadcasts, fundraisers) where downtime would be disruptive and we will do our best to avoid them

Automatic Migration After BETA

Over the coming months, all Studiio customers currently on C1 will be automatically migrated to C2. We will contact you ahead of your scheduled migration date with:

  • Advance notice of your migration window

  • Confirmation of the expected downtime period

  • A summary of what to expect after the switch

You do not need to opt in, your migration will be handled by our team. If you would like to join the BETA and migrate earlier than your scheduled date, get in touch with us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will my phone number change?

A: No. Your existing phone number(s) are ported across, listeners do not need to dial a different number.

Q: Will SMS messages be disrupted?

A: There may be a brief window of a few hours during the porting process where SMS is unavailable. Outside of that window, SMS works as normal.

Q: Do I need to update anything in Studiio after the migration?

A: Your Studiio dashboard will automatically reflect the new C2 interface. We recommend reviewing your call routing settings after the switch to take advantage of the new custom routing features.

Q: Can I stay on C1?

A: C1 will be phased out as part of the migration program. All stations will eventually move to C2. The BETA program allows you to make the move early on your own terms.

Q: Will my listener data carry over?

A: Yes. Your existing recordings and listener profiles are retained.

Q: I'm on C2 BETA, who do I contact if something isn't right?

A: Reach out to us via the chat icon in the bottom-right of your Studiio dashboard, or email support@studiio.io. As a BETA participant, your feedback is especially valuable and we'll prioritise your support requests.
