1. Phone Number
Your station's phone number is the entry point for all inbound calls. Listeners dial this number to reach you. You can manage your phone numbers under Communication > Phone Calls > Numbers.
2. Routing Rules
When a call arrives, Studiio checks your routing configuration to decide where to send it. This is managed under Communication > Phone Calls > Routing. Routing can be configured based on time (different behavior at different times of day or days of the week) or show-based (different behavior while a specific show is on air).
3. Endpoints
Routing sends the call to an endpoint. There are two types of endpoints in Studiio:
Screener Endpoint: A producer manages incoming calls using the dashboard, screening callers and transferring selected ones to the studio.
Studio Endpoint: Calls go directly to the presenter in the Studio Panel, bypassing dashboard screening. Manage endpoints under Communication > Phone Calls > Endpoints.
4. User Connection
For a call to ring at an endpoint, a user must be actively connected:
For the Dashboard Call Screener, a team member must have the Screener page open in their browser.
For a Studio Endpoint, a presenter must have the Studio Panel open with the phone block active.
5. Fallback
If no user is connected when a call arrives, or if the endpoint is busy, the fallback action handles the call. This can include recording a voicemail, forwarding to an external number, or playing a text-to-speech message. Configure this in the Routing settings.
6. Practical Example
For example, a breakfast show might route calls to the Dashboard Call Screener from Monday to Friday, 6 am–10 am, with a producer connected. Calls outside these hours fall back to voicemail. A smaller station might skip the screener and route calls directly to the Studio Panel.
By understanding each component of the phone system, you can ensure smooth operations and handle your station's calls effectively.
